PDMS-Supported Ionogels and a Method to Produce such Materials
Case ID: T001974
Web Published: 3/5/2014
Description:
Ionogels are hybrid materials based on ionic liquids (salts that are molten at room temperature) and a solid support material. Researchers at Tufts have now created a series of novel ionogels which are supported by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and demonstrate excellent electrical conductivity and elasticity. The ionogels were generated using a one-pot reaction at room temperature, forming a stable, castable resin after as little as 30 minutes. The elastic deformation reported for these new materials is unique among ionogels, making them appealing for numerous applications, including electrolytes in electric double layer capacitor devices or as flexible electrolyte membranes.
